17/ComicSansDestroyed.
Following the creation and gathering of our Comic Sans character it then had to be destroyed. Destroying Comic Sans should be both a right of passage and initiation for any graphic designer. Whilst others burnt, melted, ate, swung at and clobbered theirs, I thought I’d take mine for a box. Location is so key to this series of before, during and after, definately wanted to capture the fight amidst some epic scenes. Photography by Bhav Mistry.

14/Jimi.
I’m not proud of this. We had to recreate a classic portrait, I chose Jimi Hendrix, what with the hair and everything, the result kind of speaks for itself. In my tutorial I got told it was like “if X-Factor produced pornstars” and I can definately see where he’s coming from.

13/Shrine/ptIII.
Finished the Shrine project with Josh on Monday night, we went out much later this time, upped the exposure and played around with ‘burning ghosts’ into the frame. I think this really locks into the things that unite the typewriter and cities at night, themes of interactivity, decay, haunting and an un-articulable aesthetic. There’s something about both cities at 4am and the typewriter that makes it hard to express just why they are so beautiful and compulsory until you find yourself walking through empty, silent streets or sit yourself down behind the typewriter and type. Shouts to @Josh_Carpenter.

10/Shrine/ptII.
Update on mine and @Josh’s Shrine project, ptI here. This time we built a plinth on which to put the typewriter, took it to the same location as before and got people to write on it. Think we can nail the final image tomorrow; we’re going to up the exposure, change lighting and perspective hopefully capturing some ‘ghosts’ to make hauntology’s grip on both typewriter and city more explicit.

9/ComicSansMSComesOut.
Between the whole of #gdc1 we made the entire character set of the much loved Comic Sans MS (mine was p), painted them brilliant white and then today we took them out. Photos after the jump or even more on Flickr.
More Comic Sans (Destroyed) later…
8/Shrine/ptI.
Following a presentation on things we are passionate about, we’ve been paired up and have to go and make a shrine, combining those things. I’m with man like @Josh Carpenter, who loves his typewriter, I love LDN (and in fact cities in general) at night so naturally we are taking the typewriter out at night and seeing what might happen.
Last night was the first time we went out. Some initial photos after the jump, and even more on Flickr.
