38/Pipedown#03.

Flyers and posters for third Pipedown night. This one done in collaboration with Matt Flynn who also runs Pipedown with me, key was making sure the theme continued from the previous flyers. The night itself is going to be ridiculous – Addison Groove, James Blake, Airhead, Xxxy are playing alongside ourselves and it’s free all night long. Details.

Anyway flyers after the jump or on Flickr.

37/AbundantPromo.

I’m currently doing a lot of work for Abundant, the company specialises in radio advertising and social media for films but also have their hand in lots of other, more creative pies. Amongst other things under their banner I’ve done illustrations for CBeebies and a website for new film Made In Dagenham. However, more aesthetically arresting is this promotional booklet.

Selected pages and clippings after the jump.

27/Pipedown#02.

Flyers for the second Pipedown night. This one we had otherworldly beats from the label Keysound; heads Dusk & Blackdown brought LHF and Kowton. Absolutely next.

Design-wise, I want the flyers and posters to develop with each night into some sort of visual narrative. If the first flyer established the map, this one brings the map to life in three dimensions.

Flyers on Flickr or after the jump.

25/BattlescarsEP.

I’ve just designed some covers for a guy called Chris Read’s new EP, Battlescars, it’s a bit different to the beats and bass driven stuff that you’d expect from me but cool nonetheless. It was a really good brief actually, wanting to distance himself from existing male singer-songwriters as much as possible, so I instantly wanted to move away from using photography of him (examples > 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 etc.). The other thing that I picked up on was he said he liked the way 70s album covers looked so using those colour palettes, their heavy use of geometric shapes and grainyness I’ve created this series of patterns. The grainyness is very false at the moment, this can be developed later, these are early designs…

16/Rules/Play.

Response to a brief to produce a series of postcards about Rules. My series took three traditional games and looked at one creative possibility and opportunity when rules are bent or broken; play.

See all three after the jump.

6/+value/Emperor.

Brief was to add value to something around the college. A joint project with @Bhav_Misty and whilst most people added value to objects we aimed to add value to both the experience and person of lecture and lecturer.

Pictures after the jump and even more on Flickr.

Going to carry out the campaign at next week somepoint.

Words from campaign posters:

Julius Caeser, Tutankhuman, Darth Vader. All preachers with an entire nation holding on to their every word, commanders of men willing to fulfill their every desire; Emperors in the truest sense of the word.

Emperor is the new Chelsea School of Art and Design initiative to reinvent the lecture theatre; inverted and reverted. Instead of the lecturer looking up at their audience, the theatre will be turned around and the audience will be looking up at them. When the lecturer looks over his audience as if he were a great emperor he will be filled with both courage and confidence. Then, as the audience look up they can do nothing but have unquestioning belief in this higher authority.

5/Badges.

A brief, mini project to create a series of badges about passions. It was suggested to follow the I ♥ NY template and whilst I will probably do some actual passions later here’s a quick side just done with @Matt_Flynn for our club night; Pipedown.

Matt took the Pipedown logo, rotated and created a repeating pattern (though annoyingly the P doesn’t quite tessellate.) By then applying colour this was turned into camouflage. The idea being that you could print sheets of this camo and cut out circles the correct size of the badge and you would instantly get large numbers or completely unique badges very easily.

I am fascinated by camouflage that isn’t really camouflage and geometric pattern and wallpaper at the moment, the work of Manuel Sepulveda especially. Expect this idea to be developed and revisited soon.

You can see mockups of the badges, the whole process and colourways after the jump (as well as another use of the pattern in an ad quickly chucked together for LuckyPDF.)
